It has been one year since Melissa Hortman, former Speaker of the Minnesota House of Representatives, was killed alongside her husband and their dog, while two others were wounded in an act of political violence perpetrated by 58-year-old Vance Boelter.During Senate floor proceedings, Sen. Tina Smith honored Hortmans’ lives and legacy alongside Sen. Amy Klobuchar. On the same day, Boelter pleaded guilty to their murders, avoiding a federal death penalty prosecution.
