Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey praised officers who responded to the deadly shooting at the Shoreline Plaza apartment building, calling their actions “practically unrivaled.” Minneapolis officers entered the building within minutes of the first call, helped get victims to safety and provided lifesaving aid while facing gunfire themselves. Authorities say the shooting began outside the building during a child custody exchange, when the gunman shot the mother of his child, before he entered the building, shot two employees, and later opened fire on the ninth floor. Residents Muse Afrah, 61, and Dale Henry Spry, 63, were killed, while several others — including the mother and the two employees — were wounded. Officers Joseph Michnowski and Yahye Ahmed were also shot. Ahmed has since been released from the hospital, while Michnowski underwent surgery after being shot twice in the abdomen and is expected to survive. The suspected shooter, Carlton Neal Johnson II, died in an exchange of gunfire with police.
