Minnesota House DFL leader blasts Trump health cuts as hospitals teeter on the edge

Stephenson pointed to Medicaid cuts, reduced hospital funding and the loss of enhanced Affordable Care Act subsidies, arguing the changes will force people off coverage while leaving hospitals to absorb more uncompensated care. Minnesota has already had a glimpse of those stakes. Hennepin County Medical Center faced such severe financial pressure this year that state lawmakers approved more than $200 million in stabilization funding to help keep the safety-net hospital open. Stephenson accused Republicans of making those health care cuts to help finance tax breaks for wealthy Americans and corporations, warning: “Hospitals in Minnesota are at risk of closing.”
