Republican nominee for U.S. Senate: boy with the Spider-Man backpack was treated “humanely” by ICE

Michele Tafoya claimed that Liam Ramos, the boy with a Spider-Man backpack whose image sparked national outrage after ICE detained him, was treated humanely — saying he was given food by agents while they waited to locate his father. But Ramos’s time in custody afterward looked far different. He was held at a family detention facility in Dilley, Texas, where his mother said he got sick from poor-quality food, suffering stomach pain, vomiting and fever. An attorney representing other families at the same facility described conditions there as “absolutely abysmal.” His parents say he has shown lasting behavioral changes since his release, including hypervigilance around police.
