Columbia Academy Principal Leslee Sherk recalled sitting with her student, Liam Conejo Ramos’ older brother, after federal immigration officers detained 5-year-old Liam and his father outside their Columbia Heights, Minnesota, home in January. Sherk said she sat with the boy on his bunk bed as they cried together after he learned his father and younger brother had been taken. Liam and his father were later transferred to an immigration detention center in Texas. A federal judge ordered Liam and his father released later that month.
