In a public debate between candidates for Minnesota House 3B, current GOP Rep. Natalie Zeleznikar denied that DOGE cuts contributed to the state’s wildfires. Earlier this year, wildfires ravaged the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCA) in northern Minnesota. It cost the state $40 million to put out the fires and cleanup after. DFL candidate Aaron Schweiger pointed out that President Donald Trump’s DOGE cut $10 million to the US Forest Service, which would have mitigated the wildfires. And now, the state’s taxpayers have to cover the bill.
