Renee Good’s mother tells Congress her family will not move on without accountability

Donna Ganger told lawmakers her family still wakes up every day to the absence Renée Good left behind — as a daughter, mother, sister, aunt and partner. Testifying before Congress, she said the grief is compounded by anger over the way Renee died and by the feeling that her family could not protect her. Good, 37, was fatally shot by an ICE agent in Minneapolis on Jan. 7. Ganger said her family may vote differently, but they are united on one thing now: accountability. She told lawmakers that forgiveness does not mean accepting what happened, and that “thoughts and prayers are not enough” without action to prevent another family from going through the same loss. The forum also included relatives and witnesses connected to other fatal encounters involving federal immigration officers.
